Introduction

Authorization and funding for the Secure Rural Schools & Communities Self-Determination Act (SRS) expired in 2006.  SRS maintained an over 100 year old commitment to share revenue generated from our national forests with the rural counties that play host to these federal lands.  While President Bush signed into law a $425 million, one year extension of the SRS as part of the U.S. Troop Readiness, Veterans' Care, Katrina Recovery, and Iraq Accountability Appropriations Act, 2007, (H.R. 2206) in May, much work is still needed to achieve a long term funding package for forest counties and schools.

The long term reauthorization of SRS is the top federal legislative priority of RCRC and we need your help to be successful.  The rural counties of California and the nation must work together to save this vital county program.
