Governmental Affairs

State and federal legislation can have a profound impact—both positively and negatively—upon rural counties. The role of RCRC is to represent the interests of rural California county government in the legislative process at both the state and federal level.
RCRC employs a team of experienced advocates and analysts (read more about them in "Advocacy Team") to represent rural California interests in Sacramento and Washington DC. Advocates focus on key issues such as water and natural resources, legislative impacts on rural county budgets, local land use control concerns, proposed new regulatory legislation, plus a myriad of other topics impacting life in rural California.
RCRC’s legislative team ensures that “rural concerns” are considered during the legislative process and works to facilitate outcomes that are responsive to the needs of our member counties. As part of this effort, RCRC’s Governmental Affairs staff strives to build cooperative working relationships with government agencies and private sector representatives that help shape policies which have a profound and lasting impact on rural community interests and local government.
