Department of Water Resources Opens Public Comment Period for Development of New Drinking Water Well Principles

The Department of Water Resources is developing guidance on drinking water wells pursuant to the Governor’s Emergency Proclamation of April 2021. The principles are expected to cover issues including domestic well monitoring, reporting, and land use controls. The Draft Groundwater Management and Drinking Water Well Principles and Strategies are now available for public review and can be found at the Drinking Water Wells Principles website. The State is currently hosting a 30-day public comment period and public webinar to review the draft principles and strategies and accept formal public comments. Public comments are due no later than Thursday, October 7, 2021 by 5:00 PM PDT. To submit a public comments or ask questions, send an email to sgmps@water.ca.gov.
