In a letter to the Biden Administration on February 24th, Senator Feinstein urged Secretary of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack, Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, and Secretary of the Interior, Deb Haaland, to establish a process for the selection or nomination of members of the Wildland Fire Mitigation and Management Commission (Commission). The Commission, which was established in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), is to include non-federal members who are to be preferentially selected from areas at high risk of wildfire. Senator Feinstein reminded the Secretaries of California’s qualifications as a high-risk state and noted that several Californians have reached out to her, eager to serve on the Commission.
