Last week, U.S. House Appropriations Chairman Tom Cole (R-OK) released a schedule to markup all 12 Fiscal Year 2026 (FY ’26) spending bills over the next 10 weeks of June and July, with the goal of completing all markups before the August recess. Chairman Cole has said that members will receive bill-by-bill funding allocations shortly after coming back from the Memorial Day recess. The House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related agencies is currently scheduled to mark up its FY ‘26 spending bill on Thursday, June 5 at 10:30 am.

House Republicans estimate that their FY ‘26 bills will amount to approximately $1.613 trillion. Notably, the split between defense and nondefense spending is expected to align closely with President Trump’s priorities. President Trump’s “skinny budget”, released on May 2, called for flat base funding for defense, relying on a separate reconciliation bill for more money, and about a 17% cut to nondefense spending.

The President’s full budget is anticipated soon and could come as early as this week. Furthermore, in an interview on Thursday, OMB Director Vought indicated that they have a $9 billion recessions package almost ready to go.
