On Monday, December 8th, Governor Newsom announced CalHOME and Joe Serna Jr. Farmworker Housing grant funding awards, administered by the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD). The awards will create 74 CalHOME projects in 22 California counties and benefit 1,172 households, while six Serna homeownership projects are expected to help another 103 farmworker households.

Under this round of grants, both CalHOME and Serna funded first-time homebuyer mortgage assistance. Serna also funded programs for the purchase of manufactured homes. Both CalHOME and Serna grants are available to nonprofits, local governments, and tribal entities.

Grants were issued in the RCRC member counties of Butte, Kings, Merced, Monterey, Napa, Santa Barbara, and Tulare totaling approximately 34 million dollars. A full list of awards can be found here. More on HCD’s Super NOFA (Notice Of Funding Opportunity) and the CalHOME and Serna programs can be found here
