Adam Schiff Sworn in as California’s Newest U.S. Senator

Dec 13, 2024   Advocacy

On Monday, December 9, former U.S. Representative Adam Schiff was sworn in as California’s newest U.S. Senator. Senator Schiff replaces Senator Laphonza Butler, who was appointed in September 2023 to complete the term of the late Senator Dianne Feinstein. Senator Butler did not seek to retain her seat in the November 2024 election. Instead, once the election was certified, Senator Butler stepped down, allowing California’s Senator-elect Adam Schiff to assume the office and complete the term. In January, Senator Schiff will begin his full six-year tenure. He will be succeeded in the House of Representatives next month by former California State Assemblymember Laura Friedman (D-Burbank).
