On January 14, Representative Mike Thompson (D-Lake) was once again named Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Tax Policy. This appointment was confirmed by a vote of the full committee.

“It’s an honor to be reappointed to lead Democrats’ tax policy this Congress,” said Thompson. “As Ranking Member of the tax subcommittee, I will continue to work to ensure our tax code works for all Americans. This Congress, my priorities include lifting the SALT cap and using the tax code to further address climate change, grow our housing supply, incentivize property owners to harden their homes and businesses against disaster, and spur quality mental health research.”

In the coming days, the Senate Agriculture Committee will hold its nomination hearing for Brooke Rollins, President-elect Trump’s pick to lead the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The hearing is scheduled for January 23, according to the panel website. Initially planned for January 15, the hearing was postponed due to delays with FBI background checks and ethics paperwork. Barring further hinderances, Rollins is expected to easily gain Senate confirmation.
