On Thursday, February 13, the U.S. Senate confirmed Brooke Rollins to lead the U.S. Department of Agriculture by a vote of 72-28. As Secretary, Ms. Rollins will oversee farm subsidy programs, the distribution of nutrition assistance to low-income individuals, and nearly 100,000 employees at the Agriculture Department.

At her confirmation hearing last month, Ms. Rollins identified several top priorities, including seasonal worker visa reform; farmer economic aid distribution; and addressing the spread of bird flu in livestock. Senators at the hearing touted Rollins’ close relationship with Trump as an asset for renewing an outdated farm bill.

Ms. Rollins’ policy background includes several White House positions under Trump’s first administration. The former Acting Director of the US Domestic Policy Council also led the think tanks America First Policy Institute and Texas Public Policy Foundation. Rollins holds a degree in agricultural development from Texas A&M University.
