RCRC-sponsored bill, AB 240 (Alanis) is heading to the Assembly Committee on Higher Education on March 18. RCRC is asking for support letters from our counties to help bolster our advocacy efforts. This bill would require the Little Hoover Commission to conduct a study evaluating educational needs and opportunities that exist for the five rural counties that are not included in a California Community College (CCC) district. At present, the RCRC member counties of Amador, Alpine, Mariposa, Modoc, and Sierra are wholly or partially outside of an existing CCC district, leaving those residents without access to the affordable postsecondary educational opportunities necessary to meet the unique challenges of workforce development, vocational training, and higher education.
RCRC requests that counties send letters of support to the Assembly Committee on Higher Education no later than Wednesday, March 12th at 5:00 p.m. A template is available here.
Counties are highly encouraged to submit the letter through the legislative portal (see here). For assistance or additional information, please contact Policy Advocate, Eric Will.
