The Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC) announced that they have released $125 million in grant funding to support local governments in their efforts to address the public health and safety impacts associated with the legalization of cannabis, as provided by Proposition 64. The application to submit a proposal is open now through March 30th. Grant awards are prioritized for jurisdictions that focus on combating illicit cannabis activity, strengthening enforcement efforts, and promoting safer communities.

A local government is eligible for funding if it allows retail cannabis storefronts or, in jurisdictions with fewer than 10,000 residents, allows cannabis delivery for both medicinal and adult-use customers. Eligible cities and counties may apply under a variety of size-based categories, and proposals must address one of four missions: public safety/enforcement, youth prevention/intervention, public health, or environmental impacts.

More information about the Request for Proposals and the application materials can be found on the BSCC’s website HERE. An information session will be held on March 2nd at 10:30 a.m. via Zoom link, available HERE. BSCC staff will review proposal submission instructions, funding information, eligible grant activities, and the rating process as a part of the information session.
