On January 22, the U.S. House of Representatives passed its four remaining appropriations bills: H.R. 7148, which packages together Defense, Labor–HHS–Education, and Transportation–HUD spending bills, and H.R. 7147, which funds Homeland Security programs. These measures now head to the Senate for consideration, with limited time remaining before the January 30th deadline.

These bills, as well as the Financial Services and State–Foreign Operations measures that cleared the House last week (H.R. 7006), will now go to the Senate. Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) is expected to move quickly, potentially filing cloture to limit debate if unanimous consent is unavailable. Senate consideration could stretch into next week, raising the possibility of a brief funding lapse absent an agreement to expedite floor action. Thune has indicated he intends to keep the Senate in session until full-year funding is enacted.
