On August 28, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) adopted a decision implementing a California LifeLine pilot program for home broadband.  The three-year Home Broadband Pilot will provide subsidies up to $30 per month for broadband service to low-income households.  The current California LifeLine program provides a $19.00 a month subsidy on home and cell phone service to qualifying low-income households, supported by a surcharge on each telephone line in the state.

For more information on the proceeding and pilot program, see the CPUC press release or contact RCRC Senior Policy Advocate, Tracy Rhine.
