The House Appropriations Committee released its fiscal year 2027 Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies spending bill on May 20, 2026. The following day, the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Subcommittee met to consider the measure and approved it, advancing it for consideration by the full Committee.
The bill provides a total discretionary allocation of $38.9 billion across all covered agencies. This includes $15.24 billion for the Department of the Interior, which is approximately $694 million above the enacted FY26 enacted level, though still less than the Trump administration’s $15.9 billion request. The bill fully funds the Payments in Lieu of Taxes (PILT) program at an estimated $650 million, the U.S. Forest Service would receive $8.79 billion under the proposal, and the Council on Environmental Quality would receive $4.63 million, level with FY26 funding.
The measure also proposes reducing funding for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) funding by 20 percent, to $7.04 billion, with cuts exceeding 25 percent for the Agency’s science and technology and environmental programs accounts.
