GSNR Holds Board Meeting in Lassen County
On Thursday, the Golden State Natural Resources (GSNR) Board of Directors convened in Lassen County, hosting its meeting at the Veterans Memorial Hall in Bieber.
During the meeting, staff provided an update on efforts to revise the previously circulated Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) for GSNR’s Forest Resiliency Demonstration Project. The revised DEIR (RDEIR) will reflect a reduced-scale forest resiliency project alternative that explores the domestic use of wood chips as a sustainable outlet for the biomass produced as part of forest resiliency projects. GSNR staff are currently making revisions and anticipate releasing the RDEIR in mid-2026.
Staff also discussed progress on other GSNR initiatives to advance forest health treatments in partnership with the United States Forest Services. This included an update on the Grizzly Flat Cull Deck Removal project, located within the Eldorado National Forest (ENF), which is the first initial project under GSNR’s broader Pilot Biomass Transport Project to reduce wildfire risk and improve forest health by facilitating the transport of previously felled, unmerchantable woody biomass to productive end-use facilities. To date, the project has transported 3,975 green tons to end-use facilities.
