RAI Approves Phase II of Rural Fire and EMS Study
The Rural Advancement Initiative (RAI) Board of Directors approved Phase II of its sponsored research project during a special meeting on March 11. The next phase builds on earlier work led by Professor Alan Murray, University of California, Santa Barbara, which identified challenges in fire and emergency medical services (EMS) response capacity in rural California.
Following the completion of the Phase I report, Fire and Emergency Medical Services Response Capacity in Rural Communities of California, Phase II will expand the study’s focus to identify scalable, evidence-based solutions that address declining volunteerism, rising call volumes, and limited local funding. The effort will concentrate on communities within RCRC Member Counties and focus on translating findings into practical recommendations that improve emergency response and help reduce rural-urban disparities in health outcomes.
