The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) is in the process of awarding critical grant funding for broadband deployment through the Federal Funding Account (FFA) Last Mile program. At this time, Monterey and Calaveras counties remain two of the six counties that have not yet been awarded funding and the last two in which Golden State Connect Authority (GSCA) has applications. Elected Supervisors and staff members from many GSCA member counties, business and community leaders, and residents sent letters and videos to the CPUC Commissioners and provided formal comment at the CPUC’s January 30th Voting Meeting, requesting that the CPUC award FFA funding to Golden State Connect Authority (GSCA) in the current funding round to support the deployment of an open-access, last-mile fiber network in Monterey and Calaveras counties.

GSCA submitted applications to the CPUC’s FFA Last Mile program, in collaboration with the counties of Monterey and Calaveras, to secure funding for these broadband projects. GSCA aims to bridge the digital divide by building an open-access fiber network that will empower residents and businesses with increased choice of internet providers, lower prices through competition, and significantly improved service reliability.
