As reconciliation legislation moves toward final passage, attention is beginning to shift to other bipartisan priorities—including the Secure Rural Schools (SRS) reauthorization.

On June 18, the Senate unanimously approved the Secure Rural Schools Reauthorization Act (S. 356), a bipartisan bill introduced by Senators Mike Crapo (R-ID), Ron Wyden (D-OR), Jim Risch (R-ID), and Jeff Merkley (D-OR) to extend the program through FY2026.The legislation now heads to the House, where Representative Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) has introduced a companion bill with support from 73 bipartisan cosponsors. With reconciliation wrapping up and legislative bandwidth expanding, there is renewed opportunity to advance SRS. The combination of unanimous Senate support and strong bipartisan backing in the House continues to build momentum for final passage.

RCRC remains in active conversation with House offices to encourage swift action on this critical program. For further information, contact RCRC Senior Vice President for Government Affairs Mary-Ann Warmerdam.
