On December 10, 2024, the House approved, by a vote of 399-18, the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) (S. 4367), which would improve the nation’s ports and harbors, inland waterway navigation, flood and storm protection, and other aspects of the nation’s water resources infrastructure. This legislation includes key North Coast and environmental priorities championed by Representative Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael), including the LAKES Act, which authorizes recreation facilities managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to retain a portion of recreation collected fees. The WRDA will now go back to the Senate, where it is expected to pass quickly, after which it will go to President Biden be signed into law.
