On July 29, the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee on Monday advanced the nomination of Michael Boren nomination to oversee the Forest Service as Undersecretary of Agriculture for Natural Resources and Environment. The vote was 12-11, with all Democrats voting no.
If confirmed by the U.S. Senate, Boren would work with Forest Service Chief Tom Schultz to oversee the pursuit of the Administration’s forest management approach, which includes boosting timber harvests on the 193-million-acre system. Officials say the increased timber harvests will help the industry, while reducing potential fuel for wildfires.
There are seven USDA nominees currently waiting to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
