On March 3, the USDA Forest Service (USFS) experienced a significant leadership transition. Chief Randy Moore has retired after a tenure of four and a half decades with the Forest Service. Moore is succeeded by Tom Schultz, who has recently been appointed as the 21st USFS Chief. Schultz, arriving from the Idaho Forest Group where he served as Vice President of Resources and Government Affairs, makes history as the first USFS Chief without prior experience within the agency.  Chief Schultz has expressed his intention to focus agency efforts on safety, active forest management, fire management, and recreation.
