On Friday, August 28, Governor Newsom announced $44 million for 15 projects across California to support tribal stewardship, desert protection, habitat recovery, and water quality. In the announcement, the Governor touts the spending as an action taken in partnership with the Legislature as a part of the 30×30 Initiative that aims to conserve 30% of California’s lands and coastal waters by 2030.
Among the grants highlighted are $11.5 million for habitat conservation in Siskiyou County, $2.4 million to restore stream and floodplain also in Siskiyou County, $4 million to improve water quality in Lake Tahoe, and a grant to fund the purchase of a Lake County property by the Tribal EcoRestoration Alliance to expand an existing stewardship training and demonstration center.
