On Wednesday, August 26, Governor Newsom announced the latest round of grant awards from the California Jobs First Regional Investment Initiative at a press conference in the RCRC-member county of Solano. The awards are expected to support the creation of 20,000 direct and indirect jobs, and build on more than four years of regional planning, project development and investment through the initiative.
The awards span 18 projects intended to aid 33 counties, and total $48.5 million. Newsom appeared in Solano County to specifically highlight an $8.2 million award to support shipbuilding. Among the other awards, a total of $10.4 million is going to support advanced manufacturing in the central San Joaquin Valley, and $7.3 million is going to support advanced manufacturing in the Capitol Region, including $1.4 million to Sierra College.
The Governor’s announcement also touted past awards that have gone to projects in RCRC member counties, including grants to support the marine economy in coastal Mendocino County, and a business innovation hub that recently opened in Siskiyou County.
