Earlier this month, the Wildfire and Forest Resilience Task Force released its draft Wildfire and Landscape Resilience Action Plan (2026-2031). Announcing its release, the Task Force states that the plan is grounded in the latest wildfire science and builds on California’s progress to protect communities and landscapes from wildfire, prioritizing actions that will have the greatest impact on the ground, as well as that the plan includes targeted actions to promote landscape resilience, increase community wildfire preparedness, and provide a framework for mobilizing regional action.
The release also includes a Science Synthesis that aims to demonstrate the strong science-based framework for the Action Plan, including the importance of home hardening and defensible space, strategically placed fuel breaks, and thinning and prescribed fire across the state’s landscapes and wildfire-prone communities. The Task Force is accepting public comment until August 7, and a final plan will be released in the fall. The public can read the plan and submit feedback HERE.
