The Sacramento Bee – California must financially prepare for federal Medi-Cal cuts now

In a commentary to the Sacramento Bee, Yolo County Supervisor and RCRC Board member Sheila Allen, highlights a growing crisis facing California’s healthcare system.
With H.R. 1 expected to result in significant coverage losses, up to 1.5 million Californians could lose Medi-Cal coverage, forcing many to turn to county indigent care programs that are no longer equipped to handle the demand. Years of reduced state funding have left counties without the resources or infrastructure to respond.
 
Without immediate state investment, counties cannot absorb these costs alone, and the impacts will extend beyond healthcare to public safety and other critical local services.
