SACRAMENTO, CA – On Tuesday, the Rural County Representatives of California (RCRC) presented $84,750 to five Monterey County nonprofits at the Monterey County Board of Supervisors meeting. Rural community and business leaders from across the state raised the funds during the Basket Drawing and Auction at RCRC’s 2024 Annual Meeting in late September for the benefit of nonprofits serving the Monterey County community.

“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the rural community and business leaders for their remarkable generosity to our Monterey County community,” said RCRC Board Chair and Monterey County Supervisor Chris Lopez. “This funding will bolster the work of five outstanding local nonprofits that are advancing transformative youth education programming, strengthening community spaces, and ensuring lifesaving animal rescue services. These contributions are not just donations — they are investments in the future and well-being of our community.”

Each year, RCRC’s Annual Meeting concludes with a Basket Drawing and Auction in which a county-themed basket is auctioned off from each of RCRC’s 40 member counties. The proceeds from the auction are then donated to select nonprofits in the county of the RCRC Board Chair. This year’s selected nonprofits include the Greenfield Community Science Workshop, Gonzales Community Center, Rancho Cielo, Soledad-Mission Recreation District, and South County Animal Rescue.

The funds raised will aid these nonprofit organizations in their continuous endeavors to make a positive difference in the Monterey County community.
