SACRAMENTO, CA – The Rural County Representatives of California (RCRC) concluded its 2025 Annual Meeting on Friday, September 19, at the Everline Resort and Spa in Olympic Valley, Placer County. The three-day event brought together more than 300 local government representatives from RCRC’s 40 member counties to engage in meaningful dialogue on the challenges and opportunities facing California’s rural communities.
This year’s Annual Meeting featured a robust agenda, including engaging speakers and expert-led panels on growing local economies, advancing sustainable forest management, creating positive youth development pathways, navigating local government politics, and exploring the impact of artificial intelligence on rural communities. Attendees also enjoyed an inspiring keynote presentation from actor and speaker Steven Ford, who shared personal insights on leadership, public service, and life in the public eye.
“The Annual Meeting is an invaluable opportunity for rural leaders to collaborate, share ideas, and strategize solutions that reflect the unique needs of our communities,” said RCRC Chair and Modoc County Supervisor Geri Byrne. “We are tackling complex issues with innovation and resilience, and this year’s discussions only reaffirm the strength and spirit of rural California.”
A highlight of the meeting was the RCRC Annual Auction and Basket Drawing, a long-standing tradition where county-themed baskets are auctioned to raise funds for local charities. Proceeds from this year’s event will benefit selected organizations in Modoc County, honoring Supervisor Byrne’s role as Chair.
Placer County Supervisor and RCRC Board Delegate Shanti Landon, who helped welcome attendees to the region, noted the importance of hosting the event locally: “It was an honor to host this year’s meeting in beautiful Placer County. Events like these foster strong relationships across county lines and ensure that rural voices remain united and influential in statewide policy discussions.”
The Annual Meeting concluded with a meeting of rural county administrators and a joint session of the RCRC Board of Directors and its affiliate organizations, the Golden State Finance Authority and the Golden State Connect Authority, furthering collaborative efforts to improve infrastructure, broadband access, and economic development in rural regions.
